We need a little help and a lot of good wishes for our Joey.
We're reaching out with a difficult and worrying update about our 17-year-old son, Joey. Last week, on October 15th, he had his first-ever seizure—an unexpected grand mal that lasted about 8 minutes. We are still reeling and incredibly worried, especially since he hit his head.
Watching our boy go through this was terrifying. Given the difficult start he had in life as a 28-week preemie and his challenges on the spectrum, this feels like an extra heavy blow.
He needs to be as calm and rested as possible as we begin the crucial process of testing and specialist appointments to find out what caused this. The anxiety this is causing him right now is huge.
We are trying to remove any extra stress on him (and us). To help keep him comfortable, distracted, and calm during this period of testing and recovery, we've created a small Amazon Wish List of sensory and comfort items. These little things will make a huge difference in managing his anxiety.
